Minutes from Reservoir Characterization SING meeting, 16 November 2001 at Phillips

Referent:  Aasmund Bruland (Comments from K. Buer included)

Participants:  Niels J. Ventzel (Phillips), Kjell Buer (BP), Trond Kristensen (DNO), Arild Haugen (NPD), Adrian White (Shell), Robert Trice(Enterprise), Aasmund Bruland (Fortum).

1. Minutes from last meeting
Aasmund Bruland's minutes from the last meeting, 9 October 2001 @Phillips, were distributed by e-mail on 12 October 2001.  The minutes were approved.

2. Discussion of expectations to the group and suggestions to activities
NB! Generally It was deceided that the group should continue, but very important that we keep in contact with other groups, because reservoir characterization covers a large field.

Adrian White from Shell (a.d.white@shell.no) was welcomed as new member of this SING group.  Robert Trice has replaced Tor Svendsen as Enterprise representative (robert.trice@stavanger.entoil.com).  Based on the improved participation (seven participants vs. four in previous meetings), the group is now established as an active SING.  Kjell Buer from BP was elected as group leader.

Arild Haugen briefly presented the SING intensions and current status in other SING groups.  The Reservoir Characterization SING should aim for bridging the gap between G&G and Reservoir Engineering (eventhough current members all have G&G background).

Suggested topics for this SING group are:

*          Upscaling problems, geomodel vs. simulation model - integration.
*          Software limitations related to petrophysical evaluation of high angle or horizontal wells.
*          Modelling of faults, sub-seismic faults and fractures.
*          Stochastic vs. deterministic modelling.
*          Modelling of non-reservoir facies, dense zones and facies variations.
*          Quantification of value adding by reservoir characterization  - benefit of optimal drainage.
*          Identification of technical limits and communication of these to management.
*          Exploration applications of modelling knowledge from producing fields.
*          Modelling of fluvial settings - turbidites, etc.

3. Schedule next meeting
Next meeting is scheduled for 31 January 2002, 9:30 - 12:30 @ NPD.

Kjell Buer will call the meeting.  Enterprise will probably give a technical presentation on the topic "Uncertainty in handeling overburden in rock physics modelling".
