The revised OG21 Norwegian Technology Strategy for oil and gas specifically suggested forming a consortium that can systematically gather and reprocess field data from multi-component seismic surveys on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS) with the aim to improve reservoir characterization and to monitor production more accurately. The enclosed FORCE proposal is a response to this strategy, by specifically addressing issues related to the processing of 4C data on Hod. The Hod 3D 4C survey has been acquired in 2000 and the data has been released.
The last 10 years we have seen a gradual improvement in the quality of marine PS-data. These data are routinely used to image in obscured areas, however the resulting images are often of low resolution. By enhancing the resolution of PS-data the structural definition in obscured seismic areas will improve, but also the ability to use S-wave data in combination with P-wave data for lithology and fluid prediction will increase significantly.
The FORCE Geophysics Subcommittee is of the opinion that a breakthrough in PS-seismic imaging has a significant business impact on the NCS and proposes a joint industry project to address this. The project proposal is outlined in the attached document.
Based on the response to this initial invitation for participation and proposal, we will invite the interested parties for more detailed discussions and the election of a steering committee and a project implementation team.
To open the project to a wide group of participants, we enable participation at two levels of financial commitment, active and associate sponsor. For effective project steering a project leader team of 3-4 persons will be elected from the active sponsors. This team will be reporting to the steering committee where all sponsors are represented. Total Norge volunteers to be responsible for direct project supervision and management of the processing contractor.
In alignment with the OG21 strategy revision, a major component of this project will be competence building in Norway. We are promoting active involvement of academia in this project.
The suggested sponsor subscription is 750.000 NOK for active participation and 375.000 NOK for associate participation. A total amount of 5.000.000 NOK is expected to be required for a successful project.
We kindly request your consideration for this project, and ask you to reply directly to the FORCE secretariat (Arild.Haugen@npd.no) before the 15th of December if your company is interested in participating. Please also indicate your anticipated level of subscription. Firm financial commitments are required at the time of the first detailed project meeting which is planned for January 2007.
