Call for Papers and Invitation - FORCE Autumn Seminar:

Physical Properties of Shale: Impact on Imaging and Monitoring

Monday/Tuesday, 18th and 19th of September 2006 at the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (Ullandhaug), Prof. Olav Hanssensvei 10, Stavanger.

FORCE Autumn Seminars provide an excellent platform for operators, vendors and academia to discuss and present challenges, experiences and technology advances. The seminars are a key competency building block within FORCE and provide an excellent learning opportunity.

The 2006 FORCE Autumn Seminar will focus on the impact of shales on imaging and reservoir monitoring. Shales are the most abundant sedimentary rock type and their physical parameters play an important role. However, shale properties have not been studied as extensively as reservoir rocks. There is an increasing awareness that shale properties impact reservoir imaging and that production-induced changes in shale properties provide an opportunity to indirectly deduce reservoir parameters. Dynamic changes in shale properties might also directly impact drilling operations and production.  The program will include sessions on specific physical aspects of shales, leading to the impact these have on the ability to provide optimal static and dynamic images:

o        Geological Control on Physical Properties of Shales

o        Acoustic and Electrical Properties of Shales

o        Pressure & Stress Impact on Acoustic Properties

o        Estimation of Processing Parameters

o        4D Seismic Effects in Shales

o        Shales and Impact on Imaging

Quantitative description is a key aspect throughout the seminar. We especially encourage contributing case studies related to the imaging of shales and the underlying lithologic units.
