Geophysical Methods

Objectives

  • De-risking exploration targets using established geophysical techniques.
  • Best practice methods for (uncalibrated) exploration geophysics
  • New ways of looking at old data – what can be learned?

Scopes

  • Innovative thinking and novel ideas on utilizing established seismic methods.
  • New methods of interpreting old data when identifying exploration opportunities.
  • Identify best practice attribute analysis from field examples
  • More integrated approaches to seismic, electromagnetic and Grav/Mag data.

Plans for 2011

  • Candidate for Workshop #1. Looking at attributes and new ways of interpreting geophysical attributes.
    i) Importance of processing on attribute analysis (wavelet changes related to processing modules)
    ii) Focus on other attributes than amplitudes, any ”unconventional” attributes?
    iii) How to utilize uncalibrated attributes away from well control
    iv) i) – iii) above particularly focusing on train wrecks in retrospect. How new geophysical look at old data could have prevented dry wells from being drilled.
  • Candidate for later Workshop: Joint inversion studies on Seismic, electromagnetic and potential field (grav/mag) data.
    i) Successful application in industry or still R&D?
  • Candidate for later Workshop: Unconventional seismic (passive listening, interferometry etc.)
